The MIH was established in 1989 by an Act of Parliament as a parastatal body under the aegis of the Ministry of Health & Quality of Life, empowered to undertake training and research in the health sector.
The Medical Council of Mauritius will continually promote and regulate good practice of medicine commensurate with highest international quality and standards, with the objective of safeguarding the interests and expectations of patients, the medical profession and the public at large.

The Cardiovascular Society (Mauritius) is a national cardiac society with interest in cardiovascular medicine.
The Government Medical and Dental Officers Association (GMDOA) is a nonprofit, professional body founded in 1958. The Association regroups Specialists, Dental Surgeons, Medical and Health Officers working in the public sector in Mauritius and Rodrigues.
To provide continuing medical education to all doctors in Mauritius by organizing lectures, discussions and case presentations on topic which span all the medical specialties.
Primarily an association for pathologists and forensics. This includes however, not only full time practitioners but those in training, those involved in medico-legal autopsy work in Mauritius.
